Discover Kalkan

If you have ever been to Kalkan you will know how special this town is. About 1.5 hours from Dalaman airport, Kalkan sits nestled around a beautiful bay with its old town home to narrow streets and traditional whitewashed shops and houses with painted balconies looking out to sea or down into the bougainvillea strewn streets.

Exploring Kalkan

Kalkan's pretty harbour is truly charming, with fishing boats and gulets lined up ready for the day – don't miss a gulet trip around the bay to discover some of the hidden coves.

Around the harbour are some of the town's most renowned restaurants, plus cafes for a refreshing drink or to try the local specialities. Kalkan is renowned for its restaurants, and they spread right up through the town so don't forget to explore further. We have a restaurant review book in the villa so you can read some of our favourites – and feel free to add your own!

Beaches & Beach Clubs

As the coastline here is predominantly cliffs, traditional beaches are rare, however Kalkan has its own town beach which is made of pebbles and offers wonderful swimming with fresh water springs offering a cold burst now and again! There is also a fantastic choice of stylish beach clubs to choose from set around the bay. For a small charge you can enjoy a sun lounger and use of the clubs' facilities, with all of them offering a restaurant/café for lunch or refreshments, and many offering a free boat service to them from the harbour.

Over the years Kalkan has grown from a traditional fishing village into the upmarket resort it is now, spreading up the steep hill and around the coastline into Kalamar Bay – a 10 /15 minute walk from Kalkan. Kalamar is no less stunning, offering beautiful views and a choice of beach clubs including the new Lures beach club with its swimming pool.

You should also take time to explore further afield. The breathtaking 18km beach at Patara is famed around the world and you can discover the ancient ruins that sit behind the sand dunes. Fascinating to explore, these ruins are slowly being renovated and you can explore the amphitheater and walk to one of the first known lighthouses.

Kaputas beach is also very popular and incredibly photogenic with clear turquoise waters lapping onto the beach. Set at the mouth of a gorge, there are steep steps going down to it, so not one if you have walking difficulties. There is now a cafe close to the beach for refreshments.

Getting around

You don't have to have a car at Villa Fosa, many of the area's main attractions can be reached by bus, dolmus (mini bus) or taxi, and you can walk to shops, restaurants and beach clubs, but it can make exploring easier and the villa has it's own private parking area. Car hire here is good value and it will make it easier to come and go as you please. You can choose to hire a car for the duration of your stay or just for a few days to help visit places such as Saklikent, Kaputas Beach, Patara and Simena. If you choose to use the bus you'll find the bus station at the top of town, about a 15 minute walk from the villa.
